Dr. Benson is the President and CEO of Benson Psychological Services, PC. Dr. Benson was born in Fargo, North Dakota and graduated from Moorhead State University before attending graduate school at the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology. She did her internship in a federal prison (FCI-Tallahassee), and her residency at Southeast Human Service Center in Fargo, ND. Dr. Benson was the chief psychologist at a community mental health center in Fargo for 10 years, prior to resigning to focus full time at her private practice.

Dr. Stacey Benson is a licensed psychologist with over 15 years’ experience providing clinical and forensic work. Dr. Benson provides forensic evaluations, expert testimony and clinical consultation to attorneys on a wide variety of forensic cases, but with specific expertise in working with individuals charged or convicted of a sexual crime. She has testified in state, federal and military court and has testified numerous times since 2004 in Civil Commitment hearings of Sexually Dangerous Individuals. Other areas of forensic specialties include competency evaluations, criminal responsibility, threat assessments, violence risk, psychological injuries, parental capacities and more.

Dr. Benson belongs to local and national organizations and has taken leadership roles in both. She has been a board member of the North Dakota Psychological Association since 2005 and served as President for two of those years. She has recently been elected to be North Dakotas Council Representative to the American Psychological Association. Dr. Benson is a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA), the Minnesota Association of Sexual Abusers (Mn-ATSA), the Sex Offenders Civil Commitment Providers Network (SOCCPN), the North Dakota Psychological Association (NDPA), the American Psychological Association (APA) as well as Division 41 (American Psychology-Law Society) and Division 42 (Psychologists in Independent Practice). Dr. Benson is a certified trainer in the Static 99R, Stable 2007 and Acute 2007, the most well studied and most used assessment instruments for sexual offenders in the world. There are currently less than 10 certified trainers in the United States, and less than 30 in the world.

She has spoken at the University of North Dakota Medical School's Grand Rounds, at the University of North Dakota, North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Merit Care, Sanford, Prairie St. John's, the North Dakota State Penitentiary, the North Dakota Psychological Association and on local radio and television regarding sexual offenders. Dr. Benson has taught Human Sexuality at North Dakota State University since 2000.

Dr. Benson’s clinical practice includes the provision of therapy services for a wide variety of mental health concerns to include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues, and sexual concerns.

Dr. Darveaux is a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of experience. He provides comprehensive psychological evaluation and treatment of children, adolescents (including their families), and adults.

He has special interests in ADHD, childhood depression/anxiety, autistic spectrum disorders, learning disorders, and the disruptive behaviors that frequently accompany these conditions.

Dr. Darveaux received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, specializing in school psychology. His clinical experience includes work as a consulting psychologist for Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, various special education cooperatives, and juvenile court services.

He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses and has presented at local, regional, and state conferences.

Dr. Darveaux is an Independent Contractor.

Dr. Kelly Smith is a licensed clinical psychologist who completes evaluations related to adult and juvenile sexual and/or violent reoffense risk, parental capacity, adoption qualification, sensitive employment, learning disabilities, chronic pain, and diagnostic clarification. She also provides evidence-based individual and group treatment for a wide variety of mental health conditions. Dr. Smith completed her undergraduate education at Colorado State University. She obtained her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University’s School of Professional Psychology. She completed an APA-accredited internship at Southeast Human Service Center and a psychology residency at Benson Psychological Services.

Her experience includes provision of clinical services in community mental health clinics, state prisons, an academic health science center, residential settings, and mobile crisis settings.

Dr. Sara Quam is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides psychological evaluations on parents whose children are currently in foster care, to help assess their parenting strengths and areas for needed growth in order to facilitate reunification with their children.

In addition, she provides evaluations on adolescents charged or convicted of a sexual crime.

Dr. Quam graduated from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology in 2005, and did her internship and residency at Southeast Human Service Center in Fargo, ND.

Dr. Quam's other interests include individual and group therapy, parent training, consultation, and behavioral interventions. ×

Kristy Kiland is a licensed mental health professional with over 15 years of experience treating a wide variety of needs and illnesses in children, adolescents, and adults. She is currently in pursuit of her doctorate degree in clinical psychology. She is dedicated to providing high quality and comprehensive care in a relaxed and trusting environment that inspires and facilitates growth, healing, and greater sense of joy, peace, and fulfillment in one’s life and relationships.

Kristy’s interests include psychological evaluations, parent training, and behavioral intervention, forensic evaluations, specifically evaluations related to adult and juvenile sexual violent reoffense risk and parenting/custody investigations. In addition to providing services to individual, group, and families, Kristy also serve as a parenting consultant to divorced parents struggling with conflict over parenting decisions and serves as a Divorce Coach or Child Specialist in the Collaborative Law divorce process.

She is passionate about her field of study and is an adjunct faculty member at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. Kristy is a member of the American Psychological Association, North Dakota Psychological Association, Minnesota Psychological Association, Minnesota Collaborative Law Institute, and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She is licensed by the ND State Board of Social Work.

Parental Capacity Evaluations

Parental capacity evaluations are conducted when concerns have been raised about an individual's ability to be an effective and appropriate parent. Procedures include a comprehensive clinical interview, a battery of psychological and parenting testing, and other procedures as needed on a case-by-case basis. The final report will offer comments on the individual's parenting strengths, opportunities for growth, and overall mental health; as well as recommendations if appropriate.
